This whole incident took place in Aurora, and for all of you out there who know nothing about Colorado I just thought I would share this with you. I had the amazing pleasure of seeing DL Hughley last year and as he said “Aurora is the Compton of Colorado”. Now Aurora is not to the same extremes as Compton just the place where you expect hate crimes, and very pointless crimes to take place. With this in mind let me explain briefly what happened at an Aurora Burger King May 29, 2009.

There is a car with 3 females in it, they decided to stop at Burger King on the way home from a bar around 2:30 am. It was two friends and one of the girl’s mother, they thought that this was a simple routine stop at Burger King. Little did they know that it would end in the mother being run over and killed! Of course the cops cannot release all the details of the crime and there are two stories to what occurred that night.

Here is a very brief summary of what happened according to the victim’s daughter. She was with her friend and mother and they chose to stop at a Burger King to get some food after leaving a bar. They were in the dive thru when a male walked up to the window to ask if they had a cigarette. Everyone in the car responded with a “no”, but the man knew they were lying because he saw some in one of the purses inside of their car. When he saw the cigarettes he stuck his arm into the car to try to reach them. The girls rustle around with the man and get his arm out of the vehicle and the window up. The man then got back into the Cadillac behind them and the two girls with him then proceeded to yell racial slurs saying things like, “We’re Mexicans! We’ll kill you white bitches!” Because of the extremes that the Cadillac’s passengers when to the girls asked Burger King employee’s to call the police, to which they refused to and just threw their food in the car to get them on their way. Around the time when the girls got their food they hear noises like their tail lights were being broken, or that glass bottles were being thrown at the car. They were worried that their car was damaged so they stop in the parking lot to look it over.

After they got out of the car the Cadillac screeched to a stop near the back of their car. The two girls from that car got out and were very agitated and yelling at the girls. Why the passengers were so angry is still quite the mystery. I also do not fully understand how it got to the point where anyone was run over and killed. The only other details that were described by Shala Parker to Westword, was that the male got out of the Cadillac again and a male friend of Parkers was driving by and saw this altercation. Parker’s male friend and the male from the Cadillac got into a physical fight. When it seemed as though Parker’s male friend was winning the fight one of the females from the Cadillac attempted to fight Shala Parker. The male then got back into the Cadillac, and Shala was able to break free from the fight. When Shala’s mother got out of her car and was trying to get everyone to go their separate ways. This is when everyone got back into the Cadaillac, one girl yelled “Let’s just fucking hit them.” At that point the Cadillac then slammed into Shala’s mother and their car. Shala Parkers mother Lilian Verdonkschot died later due to injuries from the accident.

Nadine Montoya was later arrested and charged for the murder of Lilian Verdonkschot. She was not changed with a hate crime, but Shala Parker believes that she should be charged with a hate crime because there were so many racial slurs shouted throughout the entire altercation. Montoya’s sister claims that her sister would never say anything derogatory about another race, but Montoya says that she did say “We’re Mexicans! We’ll kill you white bitches!”

I hate to be harsh to anyone because this is a horrific situation, but I just cannot imagine allowing myself or my family to stay in such a situation. I know what Aurora is like, and I do not live there so maybe I am biased. If people were threatening me and throwing things at my vehicle then I never would stay in the parking lot. I really find this terrifying, can you imagine getting to a point in this world where we are not even safe in our own vehicles while going through a drive thru?

Tom Martino

We also have a man called Tom Martino here in Denver. He has the nick-name of “Tom Martino The Troubleshooter”. It started as a small part on the local news where he was pointing out scams and good for nothing companies. He was very good at his job, and became very popular which lead him to be a local superstar. He now has his own TV show, Radio Show and Blog. Recently it seemed like his name was all over the place, then I caught a small glimpse of his TV show and honestly lost some respect for him. I may have just watched it on the wrong day, but it was a lot of bickering between him and the co-host who clearly did not like each other! I happened to watch on the right day to get a small look into what would become a local tiff.  On this show Tom Martino talks about products, local companies and things that he thinks everyone needs to know about. He talks about both the good and bad from everyone! On this faithful day he was talking about energy drinks. This struck me as quite odd because how could this be a scam, or how can this be a good thing? We all know some may work, but none are ever ‘good’ for you so what does this man care about them for? Not to mention the fact that this was not only an energy drink, but an energy drink “with a business opportunity”.

Come to find out this is what many people thought and Westword had an employee who just happened to have a way to voice this interesting business voice about Tom Martino. They wrote an article about this business opportunity and “The Martine Matrix” which explains what they heard and were told Martino was getting in return for plugging this drink on air.

To avoid all of the main drama of what they heard and what Martino claims is not true, because that could last FOREVER! I would like to address the way that Martino handled the situation. This is what Tom Martino the public icon and mature adult responded with on his blog, “Why is it that Cowardly Jared and Westword are hell-bent on trying to make me look bad? I have no idea. Is it professional jealousy? Or just bad journalism? I do know this THEY DO NOT WANT THE TRUTH AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO OPERATE UNDER THE LIGHT OF DA. You see, I took my TV cameras and caught up with Cowardly Jared at McDonald’s. When he saw me approach his car he took off like the coward he is….”

Okay now where to really begin responding to this comment? I am not saying Tom Martino is supposed to be the greatest man alive, but doesn’t this seem a bit overly dramatic? You are chasing people down because they used the first amendment to tell others what they heard to be true? Out of all people you should understand that since you are always chasing down people who you think did something wrong or differently that you think is the best way to do it. Not to mention that your actions have made you look guilty of their claims more than anything they said. His wife was signed up to become an energy drink distributor, Tom Martino’s response “That was the only way we could get the drinks”. As soon as the article was published and he started chasing down “cowards” his wife was removed from the list.

Do you ever think that people just hold the entire world to completely different standards than they hold themselves to? Do you think that for one person to build their entire career chasing around and belittling companies they would expect some attack in response? Do you know someone who overreacts about everything?!

With this in mind I realized that many other people probably have the same goals in mind as us, so why not share what we have all found? I know that I am always looking for new exciting things to do on a budget, so I wanted to share mine with you.

I recently found out and joined the group called ‘The Five Buck Club’. When you join the Five Buck Club they give you a card (much like a discount card for grocery stores) so that you can see movies for only $5.00 a person! Of course there are some catches because this is HALF OFF of the normal movie ticket price. You typically can only see matinee movie times and use the discount card. This does mean that you can still see movies on weekends, you just cannot go to the most popular show times they have. You also can only go to certain theaters, which in some states can be the biggest downfall of this program. The only theaters that accept the ‘Five Buck Club’ discount card are specific participating Kerasotes Theaters. They have a list of all theaters on their website; www.FiveBuckClub.net. You also cannot see movies that are just out. It does not say exactly how long the movies must be out before being on the $5 movie list, but the general rule of thumb seems to look like as long as they are out for 2 weeks then you can see them for half the price.

So how do I know what movies I can see, what theaters I can go to, and what times I can go? Well there is one very simple answer to all of those questions! When you sign up to receive the card it will ask you for your email preferences, this is how you choose how much information you get on the theaters in your area. You will get an email every Thursday telling you what movies are included in the discount club and what show times you are able to see. It will include any theater that you select for it to include when you sign up. Personally I get it for all theaters anywhere near my area because I never know exactly where I will be when the mood to watch a movie may strike.

This program is perfect for all of you movie lovers out there that like to see movies away from the crowds! I personally do not mind full movie theaters when I go to movies, but I do dislike getting stuck in comedies with those very loud high school kids that feel the need to always laugh obnoxiously or repeat all that is saidJ. I was one of them so therefore now I can dislike them.

Remember, this is half off the ticket price so you and your spouse can now go check out a chick-flick and an action packed movie all for the price you would typically pay for just one of the movies! You both are winning and getting to see what you want and for what you normally pay for one! Can’t be that deal!

The children began to identify the flavors by their color:

Red = Cherry

Yellow = Lemon

Orange = Orange

Finally the teacher gave them all lifesavers.  None of the children could identify the flavor by the taste.

The teacher said, ‘I will give you all a clue. It’s what your mother may sometimes call your father.’

One little girl looked up in horror, spit her lifesaver out and yelled, ‘OH MY GOD! They’re ass-holes!’

- Moral of the story, children REALLY DO repeat everything you say! Ha Ha!

I am not a celebrity blogger nor will I ever be because I do not believe in exploiting humans to make a quick buck. There is nothing funny about degrading someone who is better than you because you are jealous or bitter. Of course I think most celebrities take what they have for granted and others think that they are owed the world when really they just need a good dose of reality. I just do not think that poking fun at others just because they have talent in a form that I do not is really my kind of a good time. Don’t get me wrong; I have my opinions and everyone who does idiotic things often will be poked fun at by me at some point. I always say it is not the mistakes you make that make you the person you are, it is the way that you respond and learn from those mistakes that make you who you are. If you never learn, then quite frankly you are beyond ignorance and are just plain dense or stupid! Anywho, back to my point for this whole post…

I think that DJ AM’s death is something that should be talked about and mentioned to many! I know that you all have your opinions, and because he did do drugs or isn’t against tattoos and piercings you think that he is not a good person. I don’t really care what ignorant thought process got you there but let’s look at some facts. Yes, he went down the wrong path and was into drugs for awhile. Yes, he has a rough hard past that you never want your children to experience. And most importantly, YES he changed his ENTIRE life around and for the last 11 and a half years he spent his life doing everything within his power to help others with their deadly disease of addiction!  He even created his own reality show on MTV that was very similar to Intervention and The Cleaner on A&E.  In clips of the show that they are using to honor DJ AM it says that he wanted to prove to one girl’s family how easy it was for her to get a crack pipe in their neighborhood so he walked up and bought one. He immediately realized how risky of a situation that was because his “hands started sweating and [he] started to freak out” as he explains.

Some say that he was trying to commit suicide; some say that it was an accidental overdose. It will never truly be known what caused him to even use again, but what it should teach us all is that addiction is serious and it NEVER goes away! These are not things that you can take lightly, and they are not things to be joked about. If you have ever saw anyone you love use drugs or alcohol you know how terrifying and mortifying this road really is.

I wish nothing but the best to all of DJ AM’s family and loved ones! No one should ever have to go through something this horrific, and if he did commit suicide this is something that you cannot ever get over. We always wonder why they felt the need to end their lives, and why they could not come to us to fix what was wrong. It should all just be about honoring him now though, he may have had some slip ups and some mistakes, but the things he did to help so many others in this world can never and will never be forgotten. Have you ever be so selfless in your life that you devoted your entire life to helping people that most see helpless? Have you ever had to deal with addiction yourself? Do you understand how scary addiction is and how hard it is to overcome? Nothing bad should ever be said about a man of this level! Thank you DJ AM for helping others who needed it just because you understood where they were coming from! Rest In Peace!

So I don’t know about you, but I know that pretty much the only reason I look forward to checking my mail is because of my trusty bright red envelopes that bring me all the must see movies, or TV Seasons! I am a big fan of watching seasons later because then you don’t have to deal with that darn TV suspense and wondering what is going to happen on the next episode. Not to mention that it is almost impossible for me to sit down and actually watch TV at a certain time each day or week to keep up with them. I also hate commercials, well most of them, thanks to the wonderful DVR invention! So now I really enjoy Netflix and the option that they give me to watch my shows and movies instantly on my computer as I work. I began to look through and see all seasons that it recommend to me based on what I liked previously and I wanted ones that I could watch instantly online because I hate silence while I work. It recommend this season called “The L Word” and I could watch all but the first season online so I add it to my queue and send the first season to the top so I can get to the ones that I can watch online. I do not think about it really at all because I have always liked what it recommend before, but this time I did not even read the description of the show. I get the DVD pop it in and think I am about to watch a show about love, ya know I assumed the L word was love! Nope much to my surprise as soon as I start watching it I quickly realize that it is Lesbian not Love!

Don’t get me wrong I have nothing at all against Lesbian’s and actually I support them more than anyone I know! It is just kind of a shocker to realize that your show is quite different from what you expected! I continued to watch all the disks in Season 1, and I begin to wonder why the show is still on air! Netflix has 5 seasons available for them! I am all for a show that supports lesbians, but this one seems like it is poorly made. I am not sure if it is going to get better, but since it went on for so many seasons I have to assume that it has! I am sure it was not very easy to get people to back a show about lesbians six or seven years ago so it probably does not have the budget of some of my more favorite shows as in One Tree Hill or Army Wives. I think the story line is a bit random and choppy as well. I do work while watching any movie or show so maybe it is just not catching my attention enough and I am missing things, but sometimes I really feel confused about how we got to a discussion or situation on the show.

I just got my last disk for season 1 and then I will began to watch all the other seasons online which usually goes quick so I will update you on the show then. Right now I am just curious as to if you have saw the show, if you have how did you find out about it? Did you like The L Word? Have you ever got the same shock by trusting Netflix recommendations too much?
